Jerry Pinkney's career as an illustrator began 50 years ago and shows no signs of stopping. Known for his beautiful children's book illustrations, Jerry has also painted book covers, album covers, illustrated novels, and created a series of stamps for the U.S. Postal Service. He is the recipient of innumerable awards and medals, including the coveted Caldecott Medal (2010), and his work has been exhibited all over the world.
We caught up with this giant and chatted about his beginnings on East Earlham in Philadelphia, his struggles with dyslexia as a kid, how art helped him find his way, and how he keeps himself engaged in his work after all these years.
