As we’ve mentioned on the podcast here recently, Spectrum Fantastic Art Live! is coming up this summer and looks to be all that. Tons of exhibitors, bunches of original art, books and prints, a plethora of artists, art dealers and collectors, and lots of just plain ol’ art nerding in general.
Special guests at the inaugural year of this event include BROM, Mike Mignola, Iain McCaig, Phil Hale, and Andrew Jones (I know, right?). Plus, SiDEBAR will have the honor of being in the house and bringing you the “art funky” like we do. We’ll be conducting interviews from the floor of the show, as well as handling panels and other kinds of discussion pieces. Should be a blast!
The event date is May 18 – 20, 2012, and it will all go down in Kansas City, MO at the Bartle Hall Convention Center. Three day memberships are available right now. Just click here.
Spectrum Fantastic Art Live! is obviously an extension of the incredible Spectrum art annuals put out every year by Cathy & Arnie Fenner, and published by the mighty Underwood Books. This live event is brought to you not only by the Fenners, but also by Bob Self of Baby Tattoo. And just in case you're not exactly sure what SFAL! is, below is an excerpt/mission statement taken straight from their site:
We envision Spectrum Fantastic Art Live! as a fantasy-focused art fair, one in which creators will be able to sell originals and prints while promoting their work to patrons, collectors, and potential clients. Presentations, panels and displays will help broaden the public’s awareness of and appreciation for our field; art directors will be invited to meet new talent and conduct portfolio reviews; workshops and educational opportunities will be offered; and there will be the chance to network, socialize, and share.
